Work takes up so many hours of our everyday lives, not to mention the work most of us with families have once we get home. The cooking, the cleaning, the getting the children clean and ready for bed, the checking of the homework, the quality time with the spouse...
It's A LOT!
I hear so many people say, "I don't have time to work out." Heck I've said it more times than I can count! lol
The good news is, I've learned how to sneak exercise into every job I have ever had and I want to share some of them with you.
1) The Grocery Store Job
In my teen years I worked as a courtesy clerk at Ralph's Supermarket. If you live on the West Coast like me, you know all about Ralph's. Besides bagging groceries, helping customers find items on our shelves, doing price checks for our cashiers and writing rain checks for customers, one of my jobs was to get in that parking lot and round up grocery carts.
Yep. That was me!
I always loved that part of the job because I was able to really use my muscles. I would connect at least 7 to 10 carts together and instead of walking the carts back into the store, I would jog them in on my tippy toes.
My calves looked amazing!
2) The Office Job
I spent 5 years working in an office in West LA as a receptionist for an amazing Travel Agency. (Shout out to All-Travel.com!) I learned so much about online business, sales and client services there.
Since most of my job was sitting down doing paper work and answering phones, I would take every opportunity I had to run things to peoples desk or to give them a message in person. I could have sent and email or even buzzed their phone, but where's the workout or fun in that right? :)
I would also take walks on my lunch break. The store was down the street from our office and I was driving at the time, but why drive when I could get some fresh air, people watch and get a workout in.
3) The Restaurant Management Job
Now, managing a restaurant is a pretty busy job with plenty of opportunity to work out. Yet there are still plenty of restaurant managers who take every opportunity they have to sit down and delegate.
Not this girl! :)
Instead of having one of my team members bring in food inventory and put them away. I would do it! That was a great workout for my arms and my legs! I managed a Pizza Hut and those boxes of dough and cheese were pretty heavy.
Lifting them worked my arm muscles and when placing them in the freezer or cooler I would often have to squat to place them on the lower shelves.
I also did a lot of walking in the dining room floor to check on customers. I wasn't going to let my server get all the exercise! :)
4) The Hospital Job
As a Sterile Processing Tech in a hospital, you do a lot of standing to assemble surgical instrument trays or to decontaminate instruments.
I literally stand in place and squat or do jumping jacks to get my body moving. I also place my hands on the workstation table and do standing push-ups.
When riding the elevator up and down from surgery to our department, I would use the ride up and down as an opportunity to get more squats in.
When pulling cases for surgery, instead of pulling them all and then going to get additional items from another area, I would pull one at a time and go back and forth to the other area for the additional items, which is a lot of walking back and forth, A.K.A -Exercise! :)
Welp, that's my story on how to get more exercise at work. You can do it! You just have to be creative and make movement a priority, no matter what!
I found another really good article online with some amazing tips on how to get exercise when working a desk job. Check it out if you wish. :) https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/exercise-at-work
Until next time...
Always wishing you Love, Peace, Prosperity and So many Blessings!
