Gmail voice and video chat

Maybe I'm late, or maybe I'm one of the people that just found out about this awesome feature!

I signed up for a Google Voice account today. Do I love it so far? Absolutely!

Not only am I able to call anywhere in the U.S. from my google account at NO charge, but I can also video chat. My favorite feature is the voicemail number. You pick your own number and calls are forwarded to 1 or more of the phones you add to the account and if you don't answer, it is sent to your free google voicemail. Voicemail messages from callers are typed out and sent to your g-mail address. What a great way to keep records of your messages!

Here are some things you can do to get started with Google Voice:
  1. Read transcriptions of voicemails. Watch a video »
  2. Customize which phones ring. Watch a video »
  3. Personalize greetings for different callers. Watch a video »
  4. Make cheap international calls. Watch a video »
  5. Forward SMS to email. Watch a video »
  6. Share voicemails with friends. Watch a video »
  7. Block unwanted callers. Watch a video »
  8. Screen callers before answering. Watch a video »
  9. Access the mobile app on your phone. Watch a video »
  10. Conference call with co-workers. Watch a video »
I used the service for a total of 4 times today and I look forward to wearing this service out!

Today is a great day to get organized!

I have spent so many days saying, "One of these days I'm going to get myself organized."  Like I told one of my internet marketing classmates recently, I'm tired of trying to do things... I just want to get it right!

With that said as I sit and type at 3:42 AM, I'm declaring!  "Today is a great day to get organized!"

Check out this article on the importance of being organized.

9 Ways To Increase Your Productivity When Working From Home

She has formed more than 100,000 corporations and LLCs across the U.S. To learn more about Nellie and see how she can help your business get off the ground quickly and affordably, please visit here.
Whether telecommuting or freelancing, more and more professionals are trading in the cubicle for the home office. We hear all about the perks of the work from home lifestyle — no long commutes, more time with family, conference calls in pajamas, etc. But what about the challenges? It’s not always easy to stay productive in the face of countless distractions.
If you’re working from home, chances are you’re a freelancer, consultant, or small business owner. This means your ability to get paid is directly tied to how productive you are. As a freelancer, wasting time equals wasting money.
Here are some tips on how to stay focused as you move through the workday, while still enjoying all the unique benefits of working at home.

1. Respect Your Own Time

When you work at an office, family and friends seem to naturally respect your schedule. But when you’re working from home, you’ll inevitably get calls at 11:00 a.m. or be expected to handle the daily errands. I’m not saying you shouldn’t wait for the cable appointment or chat on the phone, but be mindful of how easy it is to have time ripped from your workday.
It’s important to set boundaries, if needed. People will respect your schedule, only if you respect it first.

2. Impose Time Limits on Specific Tasks

It’s easy to become distracted, particularly when dealing with a task that’s challenging or a bit dull. If you find yourself losing focus, tell yourself to dedicate just 15 more minutes to the task on hand. Knowing there’s an end in sight might inject new energy into the project. And if not, move on to something else and return to it when you’re in a better mindset.

3. Set Strict Deadlines

Ever wonder why you’re ultra productive when facing a tight deadline, while a simple task can take hours to complete? You might chalk this up to working well under pressure, but it could also be Parkinsons Law, which basically states that a task will expand to fill the time you can give it. Combat this phenomenon by imposing your own deadlines for specific tasks. These can be as complicated as finishing a proposal or as simple as responding to a client email.

4. Log Off for “Power Productivity” Hours

Digital distractions aren’t just limited to Facebook and YouTube. For most, the daily barrage of emails and IMs from friends and colleagues ends up being the day’s biggest time sink. If you’re stuck in your inbox, dedicate chunks of the day when you unplug from your phone and email to get work done. You can log back on afterward and power through the necessary responses.

5. Delineate Your Workspace

Ideally you can have an area dedicated as your office (and preferably with a door so you can shut out unwanted distractions). Creating boundaries not only helps you be more productive "at work," but also helps you decompress during your personal time.

6. Slowing Down? Change Your Environment

If you find yourself stuck (and you’ve already tried the “just 15 more minutes” tactic), change your environment. Go work at the cafΓ© for an hour, or brainstorm at the park. A change in scenery can spark new ideas and give you newfound focus.

7. Conduct a Time Audit

Ever finish up the day and wonder where your time went? If you’re self-employed, it’s important to understand exactly how you’re using your time. Every so often, conduct a detailed audit of your day and keep track of what you did and how long it took. These audits can reveal great insights into your daily workflow and can help you make adjustments where needed — whether it’s getting help for your bookkeeping, dropping an overly demanding client, or condensing multiple trips to the grocery store.

8. Create Task Lists

I tend to have multiple lists running at any given time. One list keeps track of longer term goals (for example, the projects I need to complete by the end of the week or month). Then each morning I also create a focused outline for the day’s tasks. Try to keep your daily list as realistic and uncluttered as possible. Nothing can sap your motivation like staring at an overly ambitious list full of items you can’t possibly complete.

9. Make Your Breaks Count

Whether you’re working at home or in the office, it’s not possible to stay focused for hours on end. Breaks are an integral part of the workday, but make sure your free time counts. Have you ever denied yourself a trip to the gym or lunch with a friend “because you’re too busy?”
Chances are that on that very same day, you spent well over an hour browsing eBay, watching TV, looking at Facebook, checking your online bank account, or organizing your medicine cabinet. Busy work doesn’t accomplish anything and won’t recharge your batteries. So take your dog for a hike, take an actual lunch, or do whatever you enjoy. You’ll not only end up being happier, but more productive as well.

What are some of the ways that you cut out distractions and stay productive while working from home? Share your best practices in the comments.

Genius Idea For The Busy Mom: The "Mommy, I'm Bored" Activity Jar!

I don't know if you all know this, but not only am a a business owner, but I also home-school my 6 year-old daughter.  I am super busy!  Not most days, but EVERYDAY!

I dedicate my mornings to my daughter.  I give her her lessons, do arts & crafts, play games, etc.  After that, It's my time!  I start working on my to-do list.  That means, blog posts, business building, phone calls, e-mails, cooking, cleaning... whatever has to be done for the home and my business.

Now, there are some days when my daughter miraculously let's me handle my business without bothering me... but most days... that is NOT the case!  So, I decided to create the "Mommy, I'm Bored" Activity Jar.

I got the idea from www.thehappyhousewife.com  I thought is was genius and as you can see from the picture above, both my daughter and her cousin created their own jars.  Once they were finished with their creations, I then took some flash cards and cut them in half.  Then, I wrote all kinds of activities on them.  The Happy Housewife was gracious enough to share with us the activities she came up with.  You can find them HERE.

The idea is to keep your children occupied with a different activity for 30 minutes.  So, if I'm busy and my daughter is bored, I tell her to go pick a card from the jar.  She then spends the next 30 minutes doing the activity written on the card.  Isn't it genius!!  I think so.  I made use of it today and it worked like a charm.

So, if you are looking for something to keep your children occupied while you get your work done... I highly recommend The "Mommy, I'm Bored" Activity Jar!

Wishing you success in Love and Life,

Monique~  The WifeyMommyPreneur!

Respect My Grind! Honor My Work At Home Time.

To be able to work from home full-time is wonderful!  But there are times when you just want to scream out, "HELLO!!  I'm Working!  Can I get a little respect please?  Don't bother me!!"

The time is now 3:50am.  I have been up all night working.  It's sad that I have to find time to work in the middle of the night, because to be quite honest, it is extremely hard for me to get things done during the day!  And guess what... I was even interrupted while I was working late!  OMG!  That's what happens when you keep your Facebook Page open... Those damn IM's!

I ran across a great article while I was "working" on www.femaleforum.com about how to get people to honor your work hours.  Just because you're working from home, people tend to think you are always available.  I mean, it's not like you're trying to make a living or anything....

You tell your friends and family you work from home and you watch how much they call to talk or want hang out.  Take my advice... Set your boundaries right now!

Below is a copy of the article.  You can also read it and more HERE on their website.

Question: Are you having trouble getting it through to your friends and family that even though you're working from home, your still "working"?  Or have you set them straight and are now able to work in peace?  I've love to know what you do to put them in check!  :)  Leave me a comment and let's get the dialog going.

Always wishing you Mo' Love, Mo' Peace and Mo' Money!

Getting People to Honor Your Work-at-Home Time

If you are new to freelancing and self-employment from home, you have probably already seen that friends and family can take advantage of your time. While we know it is rude, the fact is that because you are at home many people in your life will just assume that you are available and you can drop whatever you are doing to interact with them. You may find that your relatives or friends call you up during work hours and want to talk for hours, or they are dropping by your home with intentions of visiting and hanging out.
If you find either of these scenarios happening all too often in your life, here are some people-management tips that can help get things back on track for you:
Explain Your Work
Many people truly don’t grasp that in today’s society it is possible to work a full-time job from the comforts of your own home and that some of us can wear pajamas doing it. People who haven’t made the switch in their minds that income can be made without going into the office are often of the mindset that whatever we are doing from our home is a hobby and not true employment.
You really have no choice but to take the time to sit down with the people that are causing you consistent interruptions and explain your work to them. You can do this in an easygoing, non-offensive manner, but you need to get the point across that you are operating a business from your home and that you are the only employee. Tell them that you are going to start setting business hours and that you will be unavailable for hanging out and phone calls during those hours - barring some major event or natural disaster of course.
Set Your Hours
One of the perks of working from home is that most jobs can be performed at any hour of the day or night, while some others are not. Although you may have flexibility at your disposal and you have the option of working when you want and taking a break when you want, you need to set-up some routine working hours that you can count on for uninterrupted work time. If you are interrupted during these hours, tell the offender you’re ‘not off’ work yet and to call back or come by later. Eventually your time-offenders will come to see that you really mean business and they’ll start honoring your work hours.
Dealing with Household Members
Sometimes it isn’t friends and extended family members who interrupt your work. It can be your partner or children who are not honoring your work time. If your work hours are during times when your family members are also at home, you should set-up a work area in your home. Ideally this should be a place where you can have a door that you can close to keep distractions and interruptions to a minimum. If you have young children in your home you may have to invest in childcare in or out of your home a few hours a week to allow yourself at least some alone working time. This is especially important if you have to make phone calls or take conference calls. No one wants to hear a screaming kid over a business call. It’s very unprofessional. If it’s your partner or older children who are interrupting your time, it’s time to sit down for a heart-to-heart talk and explain how difficult they are making your work life. Explain that if they can honor your work hours and stay out of your work space that you’ll finish your work up faster. And, the faster you finish, the faster you can give them your undivided attention.
Off Time
When you freelance or are self-employed from home it’s easy to let it monopolize your every waking hour, especially in the beginning as you learn to adjust yourself to the freedom of setting your own schedule and work pace. It’s easy to stay up late and work weekends.

Feeling A Little Scatter Brained?

So many people fantasize about working from home.  We envision ourselves sitting at our desk, kitchen table or even laying in bed pecking away at our laptop; answering e-mails and phone calls that are pouring in from our customers and prospects.  We also see ourselves having more time to spend with our family and friends.  We can just taste the coffee that we'll be drinking at Starbucks with our girlfriends, feel the romance in the air as we go out on a lunch date with the hubby and hear the childrens laughter while we do arts and crafts or take them to the park in the afternoon.  Oh the freedom and bliss!  It's the most perfect life.

The reality of it is... working from home can be totally chaotic!  Especially if you have small children at home,  a loving husband that is also an entrepreneur and friends that call and say, "I'm on my way.  Let's do lunch."  You may just find yourself running around in circles like a chicken with your head cut off.  Ideas for your business are flying around in your head, while your daughter is wanting something specific for lunch, your husband is asking you to check out the cut he just made on the video editing job he's working on, the kitchen sink is starting to look like you haven't washed dishes in a week and the dogs need to go out to pee.  Well, I don't know how it is in your home, but I have spent many a days as a scatter brained work-at-home entrepreneur.  Truth is, I was hardly getting any work done at all.  Well, definitely not enough to get the results I was looking for.  That is until I learned the power of getting organized.

If you are courageous enough to start your own business and blessed to be able to work from home full time, being organized it a MUST!  And if you didn't know, now you know.  Take it from me... Start getting organized now and you will accomplish your goals much faster and your dream will become a reality.

I just read an awesome article on www.redbookmag.com.  I shared it with my twitter family.  I encourage anyone looking for ways to actually get things done when working from home to read it.  Here is the link: Work At Home And Get Things Done.  It can happen!

Wishing you all a prosperous and fulfilled life~

Robo Form: Tip Of The Day! *Time Saving*

Tip of The Day:

Saves Hundreds Of Minutes A Week
If You're Online Much...

It's absolutely INSANE how many websites, ask you to create (and even memorize!) 8 digit passwords that you have to use every time you login.

Quick Tip: You can save hundreds of minutes a week by subscribing to password software like Roboform that will "memorize" your passwords for you and protect them under a single but difficult to "crack" master password.

Password Tips: It's important that your master password is updated regularly for maximum security. Your master password should consist of mostly random letters and digits. It's never a wise idea to use your pets name, nickname, spouse's name, kids names, addresses, or any other publically available information.

There are even random password generators online that will help you choose a password that is difficult if not impossible to guess.

To your success~

5 Tips To Organizing Your Home Office

By Guest Author: Kirsten M. Lagatree‚ author of "Chime in Now".

Whether you work at a corner of the dining room table, in the spare bedroom or in your own private office, staying organized can pose one of your biggest challenges as an entrepreneur. Many of us let filing and organizing go during busy times and think we'll deal with everything when we "have time." But beware of the clutter trap; it can truly take on a life of its own. A messy desk and chaotic filing system siphons off your time, energy, focus and productivity. Here are some tips for getting organized and staying that way in your home office.

Attack That Pile of "Stuff"

If you're starting out with an intimidating pile of stuff on and around your desk, don't despair. Take a deep breath and devote a small amount of time -- half an hour -- daily to sifting through it. This makes the job more manageable, and if you stick to the discipline of doing a little each day, you WILL reach the end of the stack.

Throw Out Those Old Papers

As you go through your stacks of paper, piles of files, mountains of magazines and so forth, ask yourself: Do I need this? Why? What happens to it next? Where will I look for it when I want it? (Not where should I put it). No filing system is good if you can't remember where you put things.

If you tend to save papers because you aren't sure whether or not you'll need them again, create a two-step trash system. I use a large wastebasket to toss anything I think I'm through with but not totally sure about. I keep another, smaller container for papers and other items that I'm sure are "trash." Empty your large basket only every few weeks; that way, you can retrieve anything you decide you shouldn't part with. Don't forget to put banana peels and other pungent disposables into the container that gets emptied frequently.

Keep Often-Used Items at Close Range

Items you use daily belong on your desk. Your computer, pens, calendar, message pad and anything else that's part of your daily routine can stay. Other items such as Scotch tape, stapler, calculator, writing paper and so on should be stored in your desk drawer -- handy to get at, but not in the way when you don't need them.

Don't Store Supplies in Your Desk

Fax and computer paper, extra pens, file folders and the like can be put in a cabinet across the room. I have a shelf over my desk for reference books I reach for frequently. They're always at hand but never in the way.

Don't Mix Business and Pleasure

Don't keep household paperwork such as bills, catalogs, vacation brochures and other personal items where they can distract you. Blending business and personal work at your desk is usually distracting rather than efficient.

Once you've worked your way through these tips, you will have a work space that makes you look forward to getting down to business every day. Good luck!

Always wishing you health, wisdom and wealth~
